Welcome to the buildingSMART International Newsletter for August 2019. This edition covers a wide range of topics including the announcement that the registration page for the International Standards Summit in Beijing is open. We advise all those wishing to attend to book early and process visa requests to avoid disappointment if it is not processed in time. This edition also covers the announcement that buildingSMART International has a new Technical Director as well as a Chapter leader profile for buildingSMART France.
Registration for the International Standards Summit in Beijing is Now Open
buildingSMART International is pleased to announce the registration for the International Standards Summit in Beijing is open. The summit takes place between 28-31 October 2019 and brings together the entire community. buildingSMART China is hosting the event with the theme of "Towards a Digital Future". The event comprises opening plenary, standards and solutions working sessions and a variety of other meetings. This summit will also host the annual Awards Program for 2019 with finalists presenting and winners announced during the dinner banquet.

New Technical Director Appointed
buildingSMART International appoints Léon van Berlo as the new Technical Director for buildingSMART International. Léon has previously served a variety of roles at the National Institute for Innovation (TNO) in the Netherlands, including BIMserver Program Manager and Senior BIM Innovator. Read more.
IFC Bridge Candidate Standard Ready for Review
The IFC Bridge schema extension project has now gone to candidate standard and is ready for review. buildingSMART standards are open for the community to input. You can review and comment on the standard by visiting a dedicated forum page located below.
The international IFC Road Project is making significant progress. The final conceptual model was recently published, and the project will soon enter phase two of the IFC schema extension development. buildingSMART International is calling on companies to provide additional financial resources to finance the joint work. New Events Calendar
buildingSMART International has a new events calendar. You can find information for upcoming events including industry third party events as well as internal meetings. You can also submit your event to the event calendar.
The International Standards Summit has now been confirmed for Spring 2020. Oslo will host the event between 23rd - 26th March 2020. For more information, please visit the buildingSMART event page.

Casey Rutland, UK Director of Digital at Royal Haskoning DHV has joined the UK BIM Alliance Executive Team as Vice Chair. “I’m really looking forward to bringing my experience and outlook to the UK BIM Alliance Vice Chair role; there remains a significant need for ‘BIM for Beginners’ resources to bring along the masses of existing small companies that form our industry.
