Welcome to the buildingSMART International Newsletter for July 2020. This edition covers some important news from around the community including the cancellation of the upcoming International Standards Summit.
There is also an update from the Awards Program 2020, with an announcement of an extension to the deadline. With under three weeks left, we encourage those wanting to submit to do so before the deadline.
There has also been a variety of votes out to the Standards Committee (SC) and an overview is can be found below. The (SC) is voting on a number of Standards, Technical Reports and Activity Proposals.
The buildingSMART Virtual Summit 2020
Due to coronavirus disease (COVID-19), buildingSMART International (bSI) has cancelled the International Standards Summit, Lillestrøm, Norway that was scheduled for 5-8 October 2020. buildingSMART will now host a virtual summit with dates yet to be confirmed.
The buildingSMART Awards Program will now take place virtually, with no changes to the program. The submission deadline has been extended to 31st July 2020
There is less than three weeks to go until the award submission portal closes. The deadline was extended to 31st July 2020! Submit your project for a chance to win a prestigious award. Do you have an exemplary project using buildingSMART openBIM solutions? We want to hear from you.

Project Delivery
Operations
Research
Technology
We encourage firms that contribute to the delivery of projects to select project delivery, such as AEC firms. Asset owners should submit for operations. Students and professionals should submit to the research and software companies to the technology category.
Submission registrations will be accepted until July 31st, 2020. Submit your project now!
The Standards Executive has recently approved two Technical Reports from the Regulatory Room. These two reports cover automated compliance checking and framing the business case for rule checking AEC information. Read the reports below.

There is currently a high number of activities in the buildingSMART community. As a result, the Standards Committee is voting on a number of key documents. You are being informed of these documents currently under review which includes a number of Standards, Technical Reports and Activity Proposals.
Voting by the Standards Committee is a key part of the bSI Process governance and helps ensure international consensus in the creation of open digital standards.
There is a call for participation for the project titled "Fire Safety Engineering & Occupant Movement openBIM Standards". This proposed project is focused on enabling the open exchange of information to provide better fire safety decisions when developing and operating buildings.
Call for Papers
There is a call for papers from theProduct Room Steering Committee.The team is currently working on a new positioning to generate maximum value for the community and the other bSI Rooms.
As the "IFC Rail" project enters Phase 2, there is a new web page dedicated to the project. IFC Rail is buildingSMART's largest project to date. This project was assembled by a group of stakeholders keen to address industry challenges, develop better ways of working, deliver open standards and extend the current buildingSMART schema to fit their needs.
This call for participation web page is dedicated to the project and aims to capture the next phase.
IFC Road- New Webpage Available
IFC Road has been a significant project for buildingSMART since it began. It has gone through a variety of changes and has evolved significantly, aiming to find alignment, harmonization and cross-collaboration with other Rooms.
The team has also aimed to deliver the final standard in-line with the IFC infrastructure Deployment project, extending the schema to be fit for purpose for road infrastructure.
There is a new policy for members about promoting their products and services on to the community. bSI encourages active promotion of applications and services as long as they align to the core mission and principles as stated in this policy. Read more.
