The buildingSMART International Council, Board,
Strategic Advisory Council
Last week, for the first time in three years, the International Council, Board, and SAC meetings took place in person, alongside the Chapter Conference. With over 80 attendees from across the globe, it was a record attendance for a Council meeting. The Council was hosted by buildingSMART Switzerland with SBB and Siemens providing sponsorship for the event.
Key updates:
2021 Annual Report approved
Approval of for new Developing Chapters: Portugal, Romania, and Morocco
Approval of two Full Chapters: USA and Hong Kong
The Chapter Conference for buildingSMART took place in Switzerland last week, this yearly conference brings all Chapter leaders together to connect and discuss the ongoing work in the global community.
The conference kicked off with a hands-on workshop for the Use Case Management service, delivered by Thomas Glaettli. After some open discussion on the current challenges faced by Chapters, the conference heard Introductions from buildingSMARTs' three new Chapters, Portugal, Romania, and Hong Kong. Followed then by Round table discussions focusing on how Chapters can work closely with users. And finally, the conference was closed with an interactive bSDD workshop and another opportunity for open discussion.
After three years of being unable to meet in person, it was a great opportunity to come together again as a community.

First Building Permit approved in Finland using IFC
IFC has been used in Finland to submit a building permit using the 3D BIM model for a site in Lepola, Järvenpää, Finland. On May 27th this permit was approved by Järvenpää Building Control.
The joint building supervision of Järvenpää and Hyvinkää is one of Finland's most advanced authorities in the field of BIM. They have made it possible for the developer to apply for a building permit using a data model, as long as it includes all the information on the building's structural types, materials, and premises, as well as total areas/volumes. All this information is provided as an IFC file and examples like this show where the future of openBIM and IFC is going.
