Welcome to the buildingSMART International Newsletter for May 2019. This edition covers a wide range of topics, including an InfraRoom update, video availability from the International Standards Summit in Dusseldorf, an IFC4 milestone and lots of community news. This edition also covers the availability of the latest case study from the award winning "Project Pontsteiger" and a webinar conducted by Dura Vermeer from the same project. Blog: are we digital twinning yet?
In this latest buildingSMART blog, Aidan Mercer, Marketing Director from buildingSMART International discusses "digital twins" as a context for project delivery and asset management. In this blog you can read about project examples of how digital models have acted as digital twins. Read more below.
"Project Pontsteiger" is a unique residential building in Amsterdam, Netherlands that used IFC as a data strategy for managing offsite construction and materials. This is the latest case study from buildingSMART and can be downloaded here.
InfraRoom Steering Committee Update
The Infrastructure Room Steering Committee (IRSC), led by Tiina Perttula, continue in their remit to drive common principles for achieving process integration during the entire lifecycle phases of infrastructure development. Their Roadmap has been published.
The recent bSI Summit in Dusseldorf, Germany March 25 – March 28 has resulted in great progress across all their projects:
InfraRoom Roadmap – IRSC has now established a working group led by Phil Jackson, including Ronald Bergs and Tristan McDonnell who have captured ideas and suggestions from the ‘what’s next’ session into a Roadmap.
IFC Road – led by Hyounseok Moon and Karin Anderson now has a Project Execution Plan and Requirements Analysis. IFC Road software deployment is on target for the end of 2019.
IFC Bridge – Led by Christophe Castaing and André Borrmann. The IFC Bridge launched the Final Draft of the Schema Extension in March 2019.
IFC Ports and Waterways – Led by Professor Haijiang Li and Alex Bradley. Requirements Analysis is nearing completion. IFC P&W is targeting completion in May 2020.
IFC Tunnel – At the bSI Summit, the Memorandum of Understanding for the project was signed. Additional participants are welcome to join the project. Please contact the InfraRoom Administrator: infrastructure@buildingsmart.org
Common Schema – Led by Jim Plume facilitated a workshop in Tampere, Finland in January 2019 and are planning a further workshop in Munich, Germany, in June 2019, to further progress the Common Schema project.

The buildingSMART International Standards Summit reaches a new attendance record
The latest buildingSMART International Standards Summit held in Dusseldorf, Germany finished with a total number of 745 attendees. Including the German User day the total attendance was 1,332. This is a tremendous new attendance record for the community and continues to reinforce the growth experienced.
Did you miss the event? Videos from the closing plenary are now available. This includes closing remarks from some of the Rooms and the first look at the conceptual model for the IFC Rail project.
buildingSMART International announces the first approved IFC4 Reference View 1.2 Export Certification (Architectural Reference Exchange). This milestone is expected to be the first of many certifications to come. Read more here.

Webinar:The Pontsteiger Project is now available on-demand
This project was an award winner in 2018 and attracted 376 registrations and a high attendance rate. If you missed it, don't worry, you can watch it on-demand.

Event: Building Digital Marketplaces
buildingSMART is working with GS1 on an event on the 8th May called "Building Digital Marketplaces". This is targeted at product manufacturers and has limited space. You can find more on this page.

buildingSMART France is hosting their regular "BIMs Day" on the 28th June 2019. This event connects users in France with industry experts and specialists focusing on the topic of BIM. More information can be found here.
