A little about me:

When I'm not at my desk looking after the bSI finances, there's nothing I like more than running in the hills surrounding my home in Surrey, England. This year, Aidan (Marketing Director) and I are being even more sporty than usual and running in the London Marathon amongst other races.

After a friend of mine was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease 2 years ago, I'm using the marathon as an opportunity to raise vital funds for the MNDA charity.  To follow my progress or donate, please click the button below.

Newest member of the buildingSMART International team

Pic_square

In January 2023 we were very pleased to welcome Artur Tomczak to the buildingSMART International team as the bSDD Product Manager.  Artur is originally from Poland but now based in Oslo, Norway.  Alongside his role at buildingSMART Artur is studying for a PhD on the support of digital technologies in sustainable building design.

Artur has a wealth of experience in developing tools, teaching algorithmic design, and implementing Facility Management solutions. His previous roles include Senior BIM and Computational Design Specialist at Buro Happold. Artur asserts that there is a synergy between sustainable design and openBIM solutions and strongly believes that the bSDD can help to systemize how we define and exchange our data. Feel free to contact Artur at artur.tomczak@buildingsmart.org or visit his LinkedIn page:

Room Leader Conf

bSI Room Leaders Conference - London, January 2023

All Room steering committee members were invited to attend a conference in London at the end of January to discuss and review strategy and collaboration on a going forwards. Over 40 Room Leaders were able to attend, with bSI member ARUP kindly making their central London offices available to host the 2-day event. This was a first opportunity for many attendees to meet bSIโ€™s new CEO Clive Billiald who opened the conference by presenting on a new strategic roadmap for bSI.

In interactive break out sessions, Room Leaders were able to consider updates to their own Room roadmaps in the light of the bSI strategy and to pose questions to bSI directors Richard Kelly, Aidan Mercer and Leon van Berlo who led on different topics at the conference including openBIM process and toolset, sustainability and ways for Rooms to increase collaboration. This was the first time that the Room Leaders had been able to work together in this way since a conference in Madrid 3 years ago and feedback confirmed that in-person discussion and debate is much preferred to online sessions. The conference concluded with a review of potential topics for the bSI Summit in Rome in March 2023; another opportunity for the wider community to meet and share thoughts on how to further improve working practices in the built asset industry.

Thanks to all who found the time to attend (including online participants) and we look forward to seeing many of you again in Rome.
