A little about me:
My partner and I just started the renovation of a little house that we bought near the beach in South West France, where we plan to live full time once it’s finished. To make it as sustainable and self-sufficient as possible, we are using bio-based materials for insulation, installing a heat-pump, solar panels, a compost and rainwater collection system and try to preserve as much as possible of the original quality, materials and vegetation of the building and garden.
Together with our construction manager and engineer were are using 3D scanning technology and IFC to capture and integrate all information along the way and make the process go as smooth as possible. Fingers crossed!

The Finnish Parliament approved laws that reduce construction emissions and promote digitalization
Finnish Parliament passed the Construction Act to come into effect in January 2025 that mandates One of the significant implications of this new legislation is that a BIM in IFC 4.0.2.1 format will be a mandatory requirement for the building permit. Moreover, the project has to deliver an as-built model in IFC 4.0.2.1 format before it passes the final inspection at the end of the project. In practical terms, this means that all projects in Finland will be modeled using IFC.
A number of community proposals are out for vote and can be accessed via the 'Standards Committee Consultation' page, which takes information directly from the projects. Follow the link below to learn more.

Following its release in December 2022, ETIM International is pleased to announce the publication of ETIM 9.0 in the buildingSMART Data Dictionary (bSDD). Indeed, a milestone for both the ETIM model and buildingSMART as driven change-makers in the digital transformation of the built asset industry, but how exactly will this impact the sector? Time to catch up with Léon van Berlo, Technical Director of buildingSMART International and Jeroen van der Holst, Community Director of ETIM International.
Publishing of the bSI Technical Report on BIM & Building Energy Modelling (BEM) Workflows and Data Interoperability
Almost 40 percent of total global CO₂ emissions are caused by various contributors in the built asset industry, a majority of which (80%) comes from existing buildings with poorly designed, constructed, and/or maintained envelopes. In the EU alone, 36% of total greenhouse gas emissions come from buildings, a majority of which (75%) are not designed to effective energy efficiency standards. buildingSMART International (bSI) is convinced that digital ways of working combined with open standards and advanced model-centric tools and workflows can make valuable contributions to sustainability and resource conservation in the construction industry. To address and bring the domains of building information modelling (BIM) and building energy modelling (BEM) together, a bSI Technical Report was developed to lay the groundwork for finding practical, open, standardized solutions for getting the right information into the right hands at the right time.
