Welcome to the October edition of the buildingSMART International newsletter! We're delighted to bring you the latest updates from the community.
This month, we have an exciting line-up of news and events, including highlights from the recent International Summit in Marrakesh, which saw 569 attendees from 49 countries participate. We're excited to announce the winners of the 2024 openBIM Awards, along with the publication of a new Global IFC Mandates Playbook, a whitepaper on Digital Twins and the Systems Perspective, and a blog post on openBIM workflows. Ecuador joins as a new Chapter-in-formation, and new collaborations with both AOUSD and IDTA are underway.

We held our first Summit in Africa
We welcomed 569 attendees from 49 countries around the world 445 who travelled to Morocco to join the event in person. A special thank you to all the event sponsors.
All recordings from the Summit are accessible through the 'Replay' tab in RingCentral. The videos will now be post-processed and then published on the buildingSMART International YouTube channel in 4-6 weeks.
The winners in the openBIM Awards 2024 have been announced!
The openBIM Awards 2024 concluded with a ceremony on Thursday 3rd October at the majestic Beldi Country Club in Marrakesh. The ceremony followed a full day of presentations from 22 finalists, competing to win an openBIM Award. Four elite jury teams deliberated for the various categories, selecting 9 award winners and 2 special mentions.

This paper presents IFC and BIM mandates to improve building and infrastructure design, construction, and maintenance, offering insights into global practices and benefits. Developed with the support of buildingSMART Chapters, the playbook will be regularly updated to reflect the latest advancements.
Digital Twins and the Systems Perspective Whitepaper
The buildingSMART Digital Twins Working group has published their latest paper on the topic of "Digital Twins and the Systems Perspective".
The whitepaper integrates a "Systems Perspective" into an existing framework in three parts: socio-economic transformations, technological and data advancements, and the expansion of the framework to emphasize interconnectedness.

The blog post "Clarifying the openBIM Workflow" from buildingSMART outlines how the openBIM framework streamlines collaboration in the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) industry by using open standards like IFC, IDS, and bSDD for seamless interoperability across software platforms.

Alliance for OpenUSD (AOUSD) Intend to Collaborate
We are pleased to announce the intention to liaison with the Alliance for OpenUSD (AOUSD) to facilitate cooperation on topics of mutual interest relating to the development and use of open digital standards.
Industrial Digital Twin Association Sign Cooperation Agreement
This collaboration will focus particularly on the use of the IFC, industrial digital twins, and the role of the Asset Administration Shell (AAS). The cooperation aims to enable and encourage seamless digital integration across various domains and will connect experts from both communities.

The first training pack is a set of five short videos on the topic of the AI-RFT tool, AEC3PO model, ACCORD technical review of existing ontologies in the AEC industry, ACCORD digitalization methodology and ACORD semantic framework.
