The buildingSMART International Summit Marrakesh 2024 took place on 1-3 October, at the Centre de conférence Palmeraie. The first buildingSMART Summit to take place in Africa welcomed some 569 attendees from 49 countries, 445 of whom traveled in person to Morocco.
The buildingSMART Awards Yearbook for 2023 has been published. Learn from the exemplary projects utilizing openBIM to tackle interoperability challenges across various industries. This global program sees the best projects from across the community and highlights their essential work.
This Industry Insights paper from the buildingSMART Electrical Domain presents a vision for using openBIM standards to enhance building design by fully integrating electrical systems. Focused on low and medium voltage power distribution, it advocates for a holistic approach across the building lifecycle — planning, construction, operation, and demolition. The paper includes use cases to showcase efficiencies, challenges, and real-world applications, demonstrating how openBIM can optimize electrical systems performance and interoperability within building projects.
Guidance for Regulators on use of openBIM Paper Published
This Industry Insights paper from the buildingSMART Regulatory Domain provides a comprehensive guidance for regulators on adopting and implementing openBIM standards in digital building permitting processes. It outlines the benefits of openBIM, such as improving data interoperability, enhancing collaboration, and supporting long-term data sustainability in the construction sector. It addresses technological, legal, and implementation challenges, offering insights and lessons from pioneering countries and regulatory bodies adopting openBIM.
The bSDD Search page has a new look! Check out the revamped interface at search.bsdd.buildingsmart.org. The bSDD content should now be easier to browse and read, promoting consistent data across projects. We would love to hear your feedback; to provide it, please fill out the feedback survey linked below.
We’re excited to announce there are two opportunities to join the Guidance for Regulators on use of openBIM Open House webinars to explore the huge benefits of digital open standards in regulatory processes, and the essential role of the regulator in improving the productivity of the whole industry as it faces the challenge of adapting to modernity.
Speaker: Franco Coin, Regulatory Domain Chair and Digital Project Manager at buildingSMART Italy.
When: Thursday 28th November 09.30am and 16:30pm GMT
Do you work on Immersed Tunnel projects? If so, buildingSMART International and the Maritime Domain want to hear from you. We are running a short survey to fully understand how data exchange in immersed tunnel projects is done and what future requirements are.
The key objectives of the survey are:
• Better understand how immersed tunnels are delivered today. • The role of openBIM and future industry requirements for its practical application. • Collect respondents' professional backgrounds, roles, and experience in immersed tunnel projects. • The level of maturity for openBIM standards and services like IFC, the bSDD, and IDS. • Provide input for bSI to help us prioritize what we should focus on. • Inform the Maritime Domain of future project planning.
If you can spare approximately 5 minutes of your time, we would be very grateful for your insights.
Register now to attend Digital Twins 2024, hosted by the National Institute of Building Sciences (NIBS) as part of the inaugural Emerging Technologies Series, in Maryland, USA. This event will bring together building owners, government representatives, and members of the building trades to discuss the applications and benefits of digital twins in the built environment.
Through interactive workshops, insightful panels, and exciting breakouts, discover how this technology can benefit owners, facilities management, and the AECO industry. buildingSMART members can use code BSI20 at the payment page for 20% off registration!
